Experience

Extra income from professional experience—without copying your employer

Years in a role are an asset only if they become a customer problem you can sell against. Experience creates trust. It still needs an offer, a price and a launch.

We build operational businesses. Start the Launch Plan — £295 — with an idea, a skill, an interest, or none.

No polished pitch needed · No payment until you choose to book

We look for adjacent opportunities: narrower than your job title, more specific than ‘consulting’, and realistic for the hours you have.

Then we build the business so buyers can find you, enquire or pay, and you can deliver. That is how professional experience becomes additional income.

Professional experience is seniority plus scar tissue. It is not the same as a skill you could teach from a textbook, and it is not a location constraint. The asset is pattern recognition: you have seen the same failure forty times and you know which fix comes first. Extra income from that asset fails when you flatten it into ‘consultant’ or ‘advisor’. Those labels ask the market to invent the problem. The market will not. Name the failure you have seen too often, name the organisation that still has it, and name a bounded intervention. That is experience becoming a product. A LinkedIn headline is not.

The objection from senior people is status. A small extra-income package can feel beneath the last job title. A vague high-status consultancy with no buyers is worse. What not to do is reproduce the employer: same sector, same accounts, same slides. What not to do is wait until you ‘feel ready’ to be an independent expert. Readiness is a buyer who will pay for a specific intervention, not a feeling. The Launch Plan is where we pick an adjacent problem you already understand and a buyer who would trust you without the old logo. The build makes that trust visitable. No income figure is attached.

Do not copy your employer

The useful business is usually next to your career, not a replica of it. We look for problems you already understand, with buyers who would trust you independently.

Experience is the start — we still build the business

Credibility is not a website. We package the offer and build the presence. You can arrive without a named idea. Typically 4–6 weeks after direction is approved.

Seniority as the asset, not the job title

Job titles rot the moment you leave the building. Seniority that converts is a history of decisions: you have signed off a recall, a go-live, a budget cut, a clinical escalation. Those decisions are stories a buyer can test. ‘Head of’ is not. When we listen to professional experience, we listen for the decision, the mess around it, and who else has that mess. If you cannot tell that story without naming your employer’s clients, we have a confidentiality problem, not a branding problem.

Worked situation: a former head of safeguarding wants extra income. ‘Safeguarding consultant’ is a fog. A three-week policy-and-walkthrough for a multi-site care operator who just failed an inspection is seniority applied. The title stays in the bio. The package does the selling. If you insist the market honour the title first, you will wait a long time. We will push the package forward. You can keep the title in small print.

Adjacent problems your professional experience already solved

Adjacent means next door, not a costume change. A bank operations lead should not become a life coach. They might sell a controls tidy-up to a fintech that is growing faster than its checks. A head of nursing should not sell ‘leadership’. They might sell a weekend rostering reset to a small hospital group. Adjacent keeps your judgement and changes the buyer or the wrapper so you are not stealing the old employer’s lunch. That is how extra income from professional experience stays both legal-feeling and credible.

What not to do: pick a trendy adjacency you have not lived—AI transformation, net-zero, ‘purpose’—because a conference said it was hot. Buyers at this level smell tourists. Stay inside scars you actually have. If the only adjacency you can name is the old product, you may not have an extra-income vehicle yet. That is a valid Launch Plan outcome. Paying £295 to hear a no beats paying £2,495 to look like a clone.

Professional experience that should not become a consultancy

Not every senior career should become a consultancy. If you only enjoyed the team, the budget and the status, independent work will feel like a demotion with invoices. If your experience is so entangled with one organisation’s politics that you cannot describe a portable problem, you do not have a market. If you need a bench of juniors to do the work you used to delegate, you are designing a firm, not extra income. We will say those things plainly. A consultancy label will not fix them.

Sometimes the honest extra-income shape is a specialist sprint, a board-level diagnostic, or a training intervention—not an ongoing advisor retainers that recreates the old job. Retainers recreate politics. Sprints recreate usefulness. If you want the old job back, go and get another employed role. If you want extra income from professional experience, buy a bounded product of your judgement. We build the second. We do not recreate a department around you.

Who will pay for your professional experience independently

Independent buyers are usually smaller than your last employer and more urgent. They do not have your old PMO. They have a mess and a date. They pay for compression: you have already made the mistake they are about to make. They will not pay for a tour of your CV. They will not pay to ‘explore’. Put a start rule on the page—what they must have ready—so you do not spend evenings on tyre-kickers who wanted a free briefing. Senior people attract tyre-kickers because conversations feel flattering. Flattery is not extra income.

Do not rely only on the old network. Some of them cannot buy without a conflict. Some will only want favours. A public presence that a stranger can use is how professional experience becomes a business instead of a rumour. Typically four to six weeks after direction is approved, that presence can be live: named intervention, named buyer type, a path to enquire or pay in pounds. Your network can still help. It should not be the only pipe. We do not guarantee it will fill. We do guarantee we will not hide the offer behind a mysterious personal brand.

Who this is for

  • Senior and mid-career professionals
  • Operators who are credible in a domain but have never packaged it

What you leave with

Turn seniority and domain reputation into an adjacent extra-income offer—without cloning your employer or diluting fifteen years into ‘consulting’.

One-to-one with the founder. Start with an idea — or with none. Typically 4–6 weeks after direction is approved. Income goals are ambitions, not guarantees. We help you build a credible business ready to reach customers—not promise specific earnings.

Common questions

How do I get extra income from professional experience without copying my employer?

Sell an adjacent problem you have already solved, to a buyer your employer does not own, in a bounded sprint. We help you pick that adjacency in the Launch Plan. We will refuse a clone of the day job. Earnings are not guaranteed.

Is extra income from professional experience just becoming a consultant?

Only if you flatten seniority into a foggy ‘consultant’ label. Better: a named intervention with an artefact. Many senior careers should not become retainers at all. We will say so in the Launch Plan session if yours is one of them.

Will my old network buy extra income from my professional experience?

Some contacts cannot buy, because of conflict. Some only want favours. Treat the old network as a help, not a market. A public offer a stranger can buy is the extra-income business. We do not promise introductions will convert into pounds.
