How to Validate a Business Idea Before Building a Website

Building a website feels like progress. It is often a distraction. Before brand, copy and design, you need evidence that someone will pay for a specific offer to solve a specific problem.

Define the customer narrowly. 'Small businesses' is not a customer. 'Founder-led professional-services firms with 10–30 staff preparing to hire their first operations lead' is a customer you can research and reach.

Articulate the problem in the customer's language. What is painful enough that they will allocate budget this quarter—not someday?

Test pricing as a hypothesis. What would make this worth your time? What would feel credible to the buyer? Indicative pricing shapes the conversation.

Design the cheapest meaningful validation test. This is rarely a website. It might be ten conversations, three paid pilots, or a single scoped engagement with clear success criteria.

Desk research and structured assessment inform decisions. They do not guarantee success. Validation reduces the cost of being wrong—not the risk of being wrong.
